Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."
Belief is the core,
the central and essential aspect of our functioning as individuals. Belief is that which lies deep within our beings and is revealed through our thoughts, words, actions and habits. The dictionary defines belief as confidence in the truth. For example, a child has the belief that two specific individuals are his or her parents. That child responds, from a very tender age, to the parents with much appropriateness. As the child develops, he or she has a greater appreciation of the parents and the roles that they play in his or her life.
Our verse of focus states that without faith it is impossible to please God. What is faith?
It is the belief in God. Faith is being certain; being confident that what we believe, is true, but we cannot see it with our physical eyes. Faith is a gift from God (Ephesus 2:8). The gift of faith is further emphasized in Romans 12:3, which states that God has dealt to everyone, every human being, a measure or a portion of faith.
Since no one has ever seen God and lived, the Omnipotent God knows that we need a special gift, in order to please Him, that is to walk with
Him; to trust Him; and to love and obey Him. That gift is faith. Hence, we have no excuse not to have a trusting, loving relationship with God.
Our response is to accept the gift of faith; and to utilize it. Faith expands as it is used.
Our verse of focus concludes with the fact we must must believe that God exists. Belief in God's existence and who He is, our Creator, will of necessity draw us closer to Him. In our diligent and earnest search for God, He rewards us. Some of the rewards are; being able to live honestly and peaceably; being loving and compassionate to others; and being able to trust His leading even when under pressure. May we use the gift of faith that God has given us. It is only by such use, that we can experience meaningful relationships with Him.
