SEEK TO HAVE PEACE

Matthew 5:9 "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."

Peace is a state of mutual harmony between people; peace is having reconciliation, accord, order, and unity.  We cannot be peacemakers, unless we have daily experiences with God, who is the author of peace.

Trust in God and being of a pacific, calm, friendly disposition are prerequisites of  peacemakers. The peacemakers practically put aside their own desires, so that the well-being of others can be achieved. In other words, peacemakers live unselfishly.

In addition, they are menders of 'relational bridges'. The peacemakers' goals are to preserve peace, where there could be a possible conflict, and to restore peace, where there is chaos.

The overall benefit of the peacemaker is stated in our verse of focus-'they shall be called the children of God.' Peacemakers are so called, because they follow the principles of God, who is the Supreme peacemaker, and as a result, they are reflectors of God's truth.  Peacemakers are promoters of peace - God's peace. It is a unique blessing to be called children of God - to be part of God's family.

Everyone, who accepts God's universal declaration found in John 3:16 ( For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.), is a peacemaker, a child of God. May we,  "Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace and pursue it" Psalms 34:14.
