LIVING ACCORDING TO GOD’S POWER IN US

John 1:12  “But as many as received Him, to them gave He Power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name.”

John 14:16-17  “And I will pray the Father, and He shall give you another Comforter, that He may abide with you forever; Even the Spirit of Truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it sees Him not, neither knows Him: but you know Him; for He dwells with you, and shall be in you.”

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of Power and of love and of a sound mind.

Focus: God wants the Presence and the Power of the Hoy Spirit to be MANIFESTED in us moment-by-moment.

GOD longs for us to accept the fact, that having become Christians, we are now His Children; POWER-FILLED Children of the Most High, Almighty, Creator of the Universe.  God, Himself has declared, that when we Receive Him, and when we Believe on His Name, He shall give us Power.  Since God CANNOT lie, He definitely has given us Power, and furthermore, He has revealed to us How He did it.

In our second verse, we are told that Jesus Prayed to the Father on our behalf.  He Specifically asked the Father to give us the Holy Spirit to be WITH us and IN us forever.  Whenever Jesus Prayed to the Father, He was ALWAYS given whatever He asked for.  (John 11:38-44)  Therefore, we have been given the Holy Spirit, Who is NOW WITH us and IN us.  We are Greatly Loved by the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.  It was the Son’s Greatest DELIGHT to ask for the Gift of the Holy Spirit for us.  It was the Father’s Greatest DELIGHT to give us the requested Gift of the Holy Spirit, and it was the Greatest DELIGHT of the Holy Spirit to come and be WITH us and IN us forever.

God had a very, very, very, important reason for giving us the Holy Spirit both to be WITH us, and IN us.  He told us HOW He did it, and now He will tell us WHY, He did it.  Our third verse says, “For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of Power and of Love and of a sound Mind.”  The very first thing that God addresses in this verse is Fear.  He says, “My Children I DID NOT give you a spirit of Fear.”

God wants us to know, understand, and believe, that a spirit of Fear is our Greatest enemy, because Fear is the spirit of the Devil, and Fear is the opposite of Faith.  God gave us His Holy Spirit to be WITH us, and IN us, because He wanted to deliver us from the spirit of Fear.  Fear is a paralyzing spirit.  Fear is a Contrary, Contradicting, Contaminating, and Corrupting spirit.  Fear is a spirit of demonic Opinion, Organization, Opposition, and Oppression.   Through Fear the Devil seeks to Confuse, Control, and Conqueror us.  Our God is truly Wise and Wonderful to give us the Holy Spirit to be our DELIVERER from all these things.

The other things that God told us about in our third verse, is that He gave us Power, Love, and a sound Mind.  The Devil’s spirit of Fear will make us Powerless, so God gave us His Holy Spirit because He wants His Children to be Powerful.  God is LOVE, therefore, when He says that He gave us LOVE, He wants us to know, understand, and BELIEVE that He gave us HIMSELF.  The Bible tells us that perfect Love casts out Fear; because Fear has torment.  (1John 4:18)  God has given us Power and Love, so that we will not be tormented by Fear, but instead we will be Fearless and Triumphant.

God has given us sound minds, so that we can be free to enjoy our daily lives, as we serve Him, and our fellowmen.  Mental Health is indeed a precious Gift from God.  To maintain a sound mind, we must think according to the directions of the Holy Spirit which is, thoughts that are True, Honest, Just, Pure, Lovely, of Good Report, Virtuous and full of Praise. (Philippians 4:8)

He gave us the Holy Spirit to Guide us to make wise choices, and to increase our Faith.   The Bible tells us that, Faith works by Love.  (Galatians 5:6)  God is telling us all of these things to convince us that because we belong to Him, we are, truly Powerful. Let us, therefore, demonstrate our thankfulness to God for the Gift of the Holy Spirit, who is WITH us, and IN us, by reflecting His Presence and Power in all our Thoughts, Words, and Actions.
