KNOWING AND ACKNOWLEDGING GOD’S POWER
Mark 4:41 "And they feared exceedingly, and said one to another, What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?"
It was crystal clear that the disciples' fear had overpowered them, but when they witnessed, the majestic, awesome, sovereign power of God, they were amazed. In their awe and wonderment and no doubt, act of worship, they exclaimed, "What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?" What lessons can we learn from our verse of focus?
1. God, the Creator is in control of His creation, whether animate (living) or inanimate (non-living).
2. If the wind and sea, that cannot think; speak; hear; nor see, obey God, then as human beings, who have the ability to do such, we ought to obey Him implicitly and explicitly.
3. The miracle at sea demonstrated that Jesus is not just an ordinary man. He is indeed the Son of God.
Consequently, we must revere Him; adore Him and worship Him.
The disciples were amazed when they witnessed the demonstration of the miraculous power of God. Their question, "What manner of man is this, that even the wind and the sea obey him?" was indicative of how they felt. It can be concluded that the disciples' awareness of who Jesus was, was expanded and deepened.
Jesus wants us to know Him better. He desires that we have a fuller understanding of who He is. May we avail ourselves of the opportunities to have a deeper, richer, more practical understanding of Jesus. The prayerful, daily study of His Word is an excellent starting point.
