GOD’S PRESENT SOLUTIONS FOR FUTURE SITUATIONS
John 6:3, 5, 6. “And Jesus went up on the mountain, and there He sat with His disciples.
Then Jesus lifted up His eyes, and seeing a great multitude coming toward Him, He said to Philip, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?”
But this He said to test him, for He Himself knew what He would do.”
Focus: God loves us, and He has made all provision in advance, to meet all of our needs.
The view from a mountain top is fascinating. The air is fresh, and the beauty of nature can be truly appreciated. One day, as Jesus was on a mountain teaching His disciples, He paused for a moment and looked away. He then saw a great multitude way off in the distance, coming to meet Him. He turned to Philip and said, “Where shall we buy bread, that these may eat?”
These words reveal the heart of God. These words reveal the caring, compassionate, and thoughtful nature of God. This great multitude had not reached Jesus as yet therefore; they could not have asked Him for anything. Jesus is concerned about their welfare. He is not waiting until they reach Him; knowing that they will get hungry, He wants to be ready to satisfy their needs. Jesus wants to ACT on their behalf before they have even had time to ASK for His assistance.
When Jesus asked Philip the question, “Where shall we buy bread that these may eat?”, He was not looking for a SOLUTION, He wanted to STRETCH his faith. The verse tells us that Jesus, Himself, knew what He would do. Jesus was, is, and forever will be, the God-Man with a plan, beforehand. Oh! Give Him thanks; give Him PRAISE. God has all knowledge and all wisdom; He does not need to be informed. He is the God of all ideas, methods, and resources.
Through these verses, God wants us to understand Him better. He also wants us to trust Him more. He knows all that we will ever need throughout our entire lifetime. Jesus saw a great multitude of people coming to Him. Likewise, God has already seen your ‘great multitude’, even the issues that will come into your life. God has already seen the ‘great multitude’ of unemployment, debt, fear, anger, disappointment, depression, sickness, pain, and natural disaster that will come into your life. He also knows what He, Himself will do for you. He wants you to read these verses so that He can STRETCH your FAITH to believe, that you already have all the solutions that you will ever need, for all the problems that you will ever have. God wants us always to remember, that He is truly our SAVIOUR, who will save us out of all SITUATIONS.
