FAITH EMPOWERS

Matthew 8:8 &10

8."The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.

10. When Jesus heard it, he marvelled, and said to them that followed, Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel."

Having heard Jesus' response that He would go and heal his servant, the centurion said, "Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed." The centurion considered himself unworthy, undeserving to have Jesus at his house. Additionally, he was confident that Jesus' presence was not necessary for the healing, since His words are so powerful and dynamic. In other words, the geographical distance; the atmospheric conditions; nor anything else can interfere with or impede the power and the accomplishment of Jesus' words.

When the Psalmist David analyze the sovereignty and Supreme power

of God, he stated in Psalms 33:9 "For He spake, and it was done; He commanded, and it stood fast."

The centurion assuredly believed that Jesus only had to speak the word and the healing would have occurred. That was faith in action! When Jesus heard the centurion's expression of faith, He commended him. Jesus said to the centurion and those that were present,  "Verily I say unto you, I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel."

Without faith it is impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6). It is faith that propels us to God and inspires us to maintain our relationship with Him. May we have a faith that will not shrink; but one that will grow from strength to strength.
