BE THE LIGHT

Matthew 5:14 "Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid."

The very nature of light, indicates that it cannot be hidden. Light is a form of energy. It is the natural agent that stimulates our sight and make things visible. Light has colour. It travels in a straight path.

When Jesus made the imperative statement, "Ye are the light of the world", He was emphatically

stating the characteristics of His  followers. As Christians, we cannot be less than what Jesus commands us to be.

In John 8:12, Jesus said, "I am the light of the world.". In our verse of focus, He said that we are the light of the world. When we combine both texts, they pointedly tell us that we must be as Jesus is, Light.

As light is a form of energy, we must be the spiritual energy for the world. Others must see that we are enthusiastic; excited and eager about our relationship with God.

As light stimulates and make things visible; we must be stimulators for Jesus and by our living, allow Him to be visible in this world of gross darkness.

Light travels in a straight path. As Christians, we must endeavour to walk the straight path, which means that our lifestyles must reflect the principles of God. People desperately need 'light' in order to see the way to Jesus. As Christians, we have been given the  distinctive responsibility to be that light. May each of us be the 'city on a hill', and shine colourfully for Jesus.
