ARE YOU HUNGRY AND THIRSTY?

Matthew 5:6 "Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled."

We can recall the times when we had an insatiable, or a yearning appetite for something.  Perhaps it was a tasty meal; a cool, refreshing drink, or even a scoop of ice cream. Nutritionists have indicated that our appetites control our diet, our diet determines what is on our plates, which shapes our health.

Simply put, 'we are what we eat'.

This also applies to our spiritual lives. Our spiritual appetite determines our spiritual health. In order to be spiritually healthy, we need to daily feed on God's Word. Spending time reading and applying God's Word, builds our understanding of God and enables us to experience His purpose for our lives.

Our verse of focus speaks of the hungering and thirsting after righteousness. In other words, having a deep longingness to live in accordance with God's plan. Righteous living starts in the mind and therefore changes us from the inside, out. It motivates us to seek God's approval, as we make life choices.

The verse concludes with a promise- 'for they shall be filled'. As we hunger and thirst for God, He ensures that we are satisfied.  The deep desire for God is a continuous action. Having a constant yearning to live a life of righteousness.  To be more and more like Jesus.

Are you hungering and thirsting for righteousness? If so, God wants you to be spiritually healthy. He is waiting to fully satisfy you.
